Keeping the Royal Mail public
Labour candidates Simon Burgess and Nancy Platts joined members of the Communication Workers Union on Brighton seafront giving out campaigning leaflets and gifts to publicise their support for keeping the Royal Mail entirely in public hands.

Brighton Kemptown candidate Simon Burgess said:
"I'm pleased the government has stepped back from its plans to part-privatise but it is important to keep up the pressure for such plans to be shelved completely. As a Labour & Co-operative candidate I believe that the best solution would be a 'mutual' where the workers and customers have a real say in the future success of this cherished vital service. That way the business can flourish and be protected from any future Conservative government that would be bound to attempt a complete sell-off".
Pavilion's Nancy Platts added:
"I was pleased to join colleagues from the CWU and support their campaign against the privatisation of Royal Mail. Unfortunately, as you can see, the elements were against us. It's such an important issue that we braved the rain nonetheless.
"Post Offices and the Royal Mail are at the core of our communities and I oppose anything that weakens their important social role."
